35. Autodesk Inventor® Network license: Starting with R9:
The license borrowing functionality has been moved to Help > About > Product Information > Borrow License for both Autodesk Inventor® and AutoCAD/MDT.
The network deployment option.
One may continue to install Inventor® 9 or later, network version, in the same manner as for earlier versions. As your site grows, this may lead to complications if you decide to change network server configurations.
All users can now make a network a network deployment image. Autodesk Inventor® Professional users can also make a deployment of the AIP modules. This is the recommended procedure. The documentation on the Networking tab covers the details.
If you are already set up using a license file on each workstation for the Autodesk products, then you are done.
For sites where Autodesk Inventor® was installed directly from the CD and the server name was entered without making a license file:
- Read the documentation about network installations if you are not familiar with the process.
- Build a network deployment image of Autodesk Inventor® (and optionally the Pro modules.)
- If the target workstation
contains a server name in the registry key HKLM\Software\FlexLM
License Manager\ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE, the license
file path of the deployment image will not be entered
automatically.
- A semicolon followed by the path name can be entered by hand, but that leaves your workstations incompatible with future installations.
- If all versions of Autodesk network licensed products are running on the same license server, this is not a problem.
- If a multiple or redundant server configuration is needed, the license file configuration must be used.
- On a target workstation:
- Delete the contents of the registry key HKLM\Software\FlexLM License Manager\ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE
- Delete the environment variable ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE
- Install the R9 Autodesk Inventor® deployment image and run it once to verify that it is working.
- The server connection is automatic. It is now controlled through a file named LICPATH.LIC in the Autodesk Inventor® 9 bin directory.
- If you are using only one server, the workstation is now running and compatible with future network installations. All Autodesk Inventor® network installations on the workstation will use the one license file.
- If other
versions of Autodesk Inventor® installed
on the workstation need other servers:
- Make copies of the LICPATH.LIC file and edit them for the other servers.
- The registry key HKLM\Software\FlexLM License Manager\ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE add the paths to the additional license files, each separated by a semicolon ";"
