Autodesk Inventor On XP Pro X-64.

 Graphics information update:

To update the graphics database inside of Inventor, use the XP update.

  1. For Inventor 10, DO NOT run it with regedit (the default you get by double clicking. Run it with regedt32 (the spelling is correct) from Start > Run. This puts the entries in the correct place for an application running in compatibility mode.
  2. For Inventor 11 or greater, note that the install directory is in <OS Drive>:\Program Files (x86).

Please update the database.

Install issues:

  1. Before installing from a deployment image:
    1. For Inventor R11 see the R11 information page for information on pre-installing the 64-bit version of .NET 2.0 framework by hand.
    2. For Inventor R10 see the R10 information page for information on pre-installing the MSI Runtime 3.0 v2, then .NET framework 1.1. and .NET 1.1 SP1. This also requires entry of a special command by hand. A dialog will provide the information when .NET 1.1 is installed. If the MSI 3 runtime requires a reboot, please do so before continuing with the pre-installation.

Post Installation Use:

  1. Explorer Context Items are not compatible with the 64-bit version of Explorer. Two cmd files are included in ex.zip.
    1. ex32.cmd close the 64-bit version of explorer and opens the 32-bit version.
    2. ex64.cmd restores the 64-bit version of explorer.
    3. Task manager also changes between 32 and 64 bit versions when explorer changes.
    4. To determine which version is running, look at it in task manager. 32-bit processes will have "*.32" after the "Image Name" in the Process list.
    5. When the cmd files are executed, the cmd session does not exit, because it's parent is gone. You must close it manually.
    6. You must be a local system Administrator to make this switch.
  2. On XP Pro X-64, Inventor is able to use up to 4 GB of address space.
  3. Inventor 2008: On XP Pro X-64, Inventor will not correctly display the Microsoft WHQL certification level of some drivers.
  • The ReadMe items are in html format. They may not be readable from the final dialog. If so, they may be found on the installation media from: \bin\acadfeui\docs on the DVD or CD1. Double clicking on the .htm document in the DOCS directory will show the document.
